Just a short one this time - but well worth an entry.
On different sides of the pond both Luke Donald and Chris Wood had a good weekend. Luke was looking his old self again with a quality performance at Riveria - putting all the pressure he could onto eventual winner Steve Stricker. Some laser like iron shots meant Luke finished 66, 66 - the strongest of the field at the back end of the tournament.
There's a different feel to Luke this year (we've mentioned before- don't say we didn't tell you). New caddy, plus the swing looked back to its fluid best. And according to Luke an extra 9 pounds of muscle, giving him a greater power base. Luke knows he'll never be the longest on tour, but the fact that he's addressed it, tells us to expect more from Luke in 2010. It's not that long ago that Luke was seen as the most likely Brit to win a major. I don't think people realised what an impact Luke's wrist injury would have on his game when he first came back. If you're just 5% off your game it's a tough haul. Luke's now back to 23rd in the World. A pretty impressive recovery.
In Dubai, Chris Wood secured a spot at the WGC Matchplay after 3 top 20 finshes in the Middle East. After only just making the cut, Chris showed some real quality at the weekend. Chris hasn't hit top form just yet, but he's playing incredibly well for someone of his age. The good rounds are really good and Chris seems to get stronger as the tournaments go on. Chris would be long odds to make the Ryder Cup this year - but i wouldn't rule it out just yet.
Robert Rock finished level with Chris in Dubai, with Daniel Vanscik playing through the weekend as well.
All looking very promising.
