Luke Donald's Diary

Obviously I've been thinking about the Ryder Cup pairings a lot. So has Ian Woosnam, who has asked us all who we'd like to play with. I played with Sergio (Garcia) in the last Ryder Cup and we played well in the foursomes, won both our matches. I've also played with David Howell and Paul Casey in two World Cups, so they would be the favourite players I see myself being paired with.
"Physically I'm very strong and mentally I'm perfectly able and I would love to play all five matches."

Who knows, though? I think the European team is very strong. I really wouldn't mind playing with anyone. Playing in all five matches at the K Club? Physically I'm very strong and mentally I'm perfectly able and I would love to play all five matches. If Woosnam wanted me to play five, I'd be available. Last time I played four and it was great. This time if I can play five that would be great too. I'm ready for it.

Ian knows my game a bit better now after playing with me in Munich for the first two rounds. It was the first time we'd had time together and we chatted about quite a few things, mainly administrative things, like timetables, practice and the official business. It was all very helpful. Then I even played pretty well at the BMW and only missed the playoff by a couple of strokes. My putting was not very good on the Saturday and I bogeyed the 17th too many times, or I would have won. It was all very optimistic for me for the K Club and helped in my aim to stay in the world's top 10.

What will I give to the European team at the K Club? Well I'm a pretty consistent player, my game doesn't fluctuate too much, and, as I've just said, I'm in good form. Hopefully I can turn that into points on the board. I feel confident, I've got a good match play record, especially in Walker Cup, and, with two wins and a half in the last Ryder Cup, I'm confident about putting those points on the board for Europe.
