JPX800 player Stacy Lewis roared back to form, winning the Mobile Bay Classic with four rounds in the 60’s. Lewis earned her second LPGA Tour victory after firing rounds of 68-67-67-69 – the first winner this season to record this feat.
Lewis entered the fourth round with a two-stroke lead over Brittany Lincicome, and four strokes ahead of rookie Lexi Thompson. Thompson worked her way up the leaderboard to contest top spot with Lewis, but a tap-in putt for par secured the win to by just one stroke at -17.
Lewis was relieved to finish off the job, “Huge - you have no idea. I just had to get it to the clubhouse. I didn't quite have (my best game) today but I got it done."
I haven't been winning but I've been so close and I wanted to put it away. I fought. I'm exhausted. I'm glad I didn't have to play more holes."
On the men’s tour Luke Donald regained his world #1 status with a 3rd place finish at the Zurich Classic. After a sluggish first round, Donald used his MP-59 irons to scorching effect in the last three – shooting 65, 66, 67 (-17) to miss a playoff by just 2 shots.
