Wood and Lewis so close on last day charge
02/04/2012

Mizuno players Chris Wood and Stacy Lewis were both close to wins on either side of the Atlantic this weekend.
At the Sicilian Open Chris Wood (with MP-650 driver and MP-69 irons) equalled the Verdura Golf Resort & Spa course record (64) with a last day charge
After temporarily hitting the lead on Sunday, Wood, who has six top-three finishes on The European Tour, finally finished a shot back in second place. Wood was delighted with his performance, after he matched Peter Lawrie’s course record.
“It’s been coming for a while,” he said. “I’ve been playing really well lately and not getting the scores. It’s nice to play well and give myself a chance. I put it in the worst possible position off the tee on 17, but didn’t play a bad shot into the green – just didn’t get any spin. The 18th was a tough hole, so I was pleased with a par to close. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough in the end, but I gave it my best shot and that’s all you can do.”
Meanwhile Stacy Lewis (JPX-800 driver and JPX-800 Pro irons) put up a brave defence of her Nabisco title in California, outscoring the field with a Sunday best 66. In danger of missing the cut on day 2, Lewis rose to within 2 shots of a playoff.
