Donald targets major success in 2012
07/03/2012

Luke Donald and his new MP-59 irons will energised and ready to be face new world #1 Rory McIlroy in his comeback event tomorrow. Donald’s group will be completed by the world #3 Lee Westwood for the opening round of the WGC-Cadillac Championship in Miami on Thursday.
Northern Ireland's McIlroy became world number one on Sunday but both Mizuno’s Donald and Westwood both have a chance to unseat him with victory at Doral. Donald was world number one for 40 weeks until McIlroy overtook him by winning the Honda Classic , an event the Englishman chose to sit out. Though after a gruelling 2011 season Donald is now more concerned with winning his first major.
“After losing early in the Match Play I considered playing Doral, but to be honest my focus is to really be prepared for this week and going forward - especially The Masters in four weeks.'
'So it wasn't really a hard decision. I feel a little bit bad that I didn't play because it is in my back garden and I'm a past winner - not at that course - but I just thought in terms of my schedule it was the best thing to do.'
'It's been a slow start to the year, but again something I'm not overly-concerned with. I feel like I'm progressing - I just need to transfer it from the range to the course.”
