Lewis drives to first major win
Mizuno’s Stacy Lewis used her new JPX800 Pro irons and JPX800 driver to great effect, landing her first major title as she came from behind to overtake Yani Tseng to triumph at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
The 26-year-old had shared the first-round lead and led outright through 36 holes, but when defending champion Tseng shot 66 to head into the third round with a two-stroke lead, it seemed Taiwan's world number one would be tough to catch.
However world number 28 Lewis was not finished, and a closing round of 69, which nobody bettered on a windy final day, saw her jump ahead of Tseng.
Lewis’s performance was built on some incredible last day driving, hitting her JPX800 driver yard for yard with Tseng to take the initiative away from the powerful World #1.
Mizuno US Tour Manager Gary Pierce, "We've been working with Stacy to add some distance off the tee. It was really noticeable this week how well those changes have paid off. Stacy has added at least 20 yards this season and Tseng wasn't able to dominate her like she does other players."
