The irons that won the 2017 US Open

Major win follows exceptional season on tour for Mizuno irons

An incredible season on tour for Mizuno irons went up another level at the 2017 US Open – with a set of JPX900 Tours played by the winner of the event.

At the start of the week, eight players had Mizuno irons in the bag – with just Chris Wood, former winner Lucas Glover and Jhonnatan Vegas contracted to do so.  The surge in usage of Mizuno irons followed Nike’s withdrawal from the golf equipment market, leaving their sponsored players with a club search for the 2017 season.

“Mizuno irons are more or less tour-ready from the box,” said Alex Thorne, European Tour Operations Manager.  “So if a tour player suddenly needs a new set of irons, Mizuno’s are the obvious choice.  Mizuno tends to sign players who already play the irons, rather than sign players and then try and build them a set.  That’s definitely given us an edge in trust and credibility.”

Golf WRX already alluded to Mizuno’s growing popularity on tour in 2017 – with an article calling Mizuno the most played iron brand by players without equipment contracts.  Read the article on WRX.
