Wood rises to 13th on Race to Dubai ranking

Bristolian finds his channel-back to top form

Mizuno’s Chris Wood finished 5th at the Turkish Airlines Open with his new MP-5 channel back irons, continuing his strongest season yet on the European Tour – with the Bristolian up to 13th on the Race to Dubai rankings.  Wood’s season looks to be peaking at exactly the right time with a top 10 finish in each of his last 4 events and 8 top 10s over the season.

The event shot Wood 5 places up the ranking and was his best earning tournament of his career to date – with 261,806 Euros banked.  More than Wood took winning the Austrian Open earlier in 2015.

Chris Wood reaches new heights on the European Tour in 2015

Wood’s injury punctuated career looked to be heading in a familiar direction in 2015 – with surgery needed to fix a broken wrist.  However a new fitness program and coaching regime saw Wood come back better than ever.  A 4th place at both the BMW Championship and Dunhill Links proved that Wood was ready to mix in more elevated company.  Wood has also recently switched to the new MP-5 channel back iron – offering a shade more forgiveness than his older MP-4 blades.

Rob Jackson, Head of Mizuno Golf EMEA, believes the best is still yet to come. “Chris’s potential has always been there for everyone to see, but he’s been so unlucky with injuries over the last few years.  Now he’s able to compete regularly we’re beginning to see what the future looks like.  Once Woody cracks the world top 50 and starts competing regularly in the majors, Europe is going to have another very serious player on its hands.”

Meanwhile on the LPGA Tour Mizuno’s Stacy Lewis was also close to another win – with 2nd place at the Blue Bay LPGA event in China.  A tough layout suited Lewis who finished -1 and just 1 shot off the eventual winner (also with Mizuno irons in the bag) to add $140,103 to her season’s tally.
