Woody goes to bed as 1st reserve / Open Championship

Mizuno man hoping to join Luke Donald, Taichi Teshima and Shinji Tomimura at St Andrews

Mizuno’s Chris Wood hits his bed tonight not knowing whether he’ll be pegging it up at St Andrews in the morning.  Despite winning his second European Tour event in Austria this year, and taking 4th spot at the BMW Championships – an automatic spot eluded him.   With a run of form at St Andrews and a solid links pedigree, the Mizuno man would be many people’s outside bet for success at this year’s Open Championship.

With Woody’s place still in doubt, Mizuno still have Luke Donald steadily returning to his best form, Taichi Teshima (winner of the Mizuno Open) and Shinji Tomimura, (also qualified through the Mizuno Open) to represent them at the home of golf.  Mizuno’s Alex  Thorne was hopeful of Chris Wood’s chances of joining them.  “With a field this big, anything can happen before tomorrow morning.  We wouldn’t wish bad luck on anyone, but Woody is well worth a spot.  We’ll have our fingers crossed for him tonight.”

MP-5 and MP-25

Meanwhile, Mizuno’s MP-5 and MP-25 iron unveiling continued to make an impact – not least with Taichi Teshima who took a set of MP-5s straight to the range.
