Wood and Donald EZ into the new season

New JPX EZ woods proving forgiveness has a place on tour

Early signs of good form for both Chris Wood and Luke Donald in their first outings of 2016 over the weekend.

Chris Wood secured 2 wins from 3 matches to help Europe secure the EurAsia cup, while Donald put 4 solid rounds together (65, 65, 71, 68) in Hawaii to finish -11.

Both players play Mizuno’s traditional looking MP-5 channel back irons, but this weekend went for more stable forgiving woods – the JPX-EZ’s.  Chris Wood used both the JPX EZ driver and fairway woods, while Donald put the new hybrid into play.

Having initially rejected the JPX EZ driver for having a little too much spin, Wood found the EZ to work much better after a little help from Mizuno’s European Tour team.  “On Woody’s first tests in July, the EZ driver was spinning too much and went a little left.  But he really like the additional size and how it set up behind the ball – so it didn’t take more than a few educated tweaks on the workshop to get it right.”

“The biggest plus of the JPX EZ is how big the MOI is for an adjustable driver.   This one you can hit a little off centre and barely lose any ball speed – that kind of consistent distance was what most appealed to Woody.”
