Luke Donald was the stand out performer for Mizuno on day 1 of The Open Championship at St Andrews with a (-4) 68, putting him in the leading group.  Not always a fast starter at The Open, Donald scored well on the front 9 and stayed focused on the way home.  Donald’s driving was also of note – 75% fairways found, put him close to the top of accuracy stats.  Donald has been playing a new Mizuno EZ Prototype driver since the BMW Championship.

Shinji Tomimura practices alongside Luke Donald before completing a +1 first day score.

Open rookie Shinji Tomimura can also be pleased with his first taste of Open Championship golf, carding a +1 first day score.  Things didn’t go so well for Mizuno Open winner Taichi Teshima who fell away to +4.  Chris Wood’s day was even worse – the 1st reserve practiced his way through the day (check out his regripping skills below), but never made the tee.
