Mizuno’s Gwladys Nocera notched a first win for Mizuno’s JPX850 driver – with a two stroke victory in the Lalla Meryem Cup at Golf de L’Ocean in Agadir.   The victory made amends for the heartbreak of Nocera’s play-off defeat 12 months ago in the same tournament – sealing the 39-year-olds 14th Ladies European Tour title.  Nocera’s JPX850 driver was backed up with her trusty MP-59 irons and MP-T5 wedges (50, 54, 58 degree).

Nocera started the day with a two stroke lead and a final round of one under par 70 was enough to end two ahead of three other players: English duo Melissa Reid (66) and Felicity Johnson (67) and South African Nicole Garcia (70).

“I knew this morning that it could happen. All I kept saying was I need to play my game and make as many birdies as I can. I tried my best,” said Nocera. “It was a tough day towards the end. I took a really stupid double bogey which put me in trouble. I missed one fairway today and I took a double bogey, so that was a shame, but I wanted this tournament really bad. I’ve always said it, and I’m really happy I did it.”

Woody 3 wood

Chris Wood narrowly missed out on his first win of 2015

“The first win was a matter of time – but it’s nice to have in the bag,” Alex  Thorne – Tour Operations Manager.

Mizuno’s European Tour Operations Manager Alex Thorne was equally delighted, “Mizuno’s not been known for its drivers for the last few years, but the 850 has changed the landscape.  It’s an incredible driver and all of our signed players have switched into it for 2015.  The first win was a matter of time – but it’s nice to have in the bag.  Chris Wood came very close today as well.”

Nocera now has 19 Life Member Points and needs just one more point to become a Life Member of the Ladies European Tour.
