Chris Wood hole in one secures 4th at BMW Championship
Woody holes out to win BMWi8 and take 4th place
Mizuno’s Chris Wood finished off a great week on the European Tour’s flagship event with a car winning hole in one at the BMW Championship / Wentworth GC.
Wood’s #7iron hole in one contributed to a last round 66 – taking him to -13 for the week and 4th place winning 250,000 Euros. The Grain Flow Forged MP-4 iron he struck so purely into the par 3 14th added a BMWi8 to his takings for the week. Maybe it was an omen that Wood’s final day shirt matched the paintwork of the prize.
After leading briefly on Thursday at -5 standing on the 17th, Wood slipped back into the pack on day 2, before closing rounds of 68, 66 demonstrated his class. Wood’s driving with his piercing blue JPX850 was on point all week – with an average of 292.3 yards (second longest in the field). A wrist injury sustained in 2014 now looks well behind him and 2015 could be the year one of game’s big talents fulfills his full potential.
Wood’s 292.3 yard drive average was 2nd in the field. But was well beaten by a 371 yard beast in Mizuno’s long drive comp.
Despite seeing off the majority of Wentworth’s big hitters, Woody couldn’t beat the public in a long drive comp. Having posted an impressive 330 yards in Mizuno’s long drive competition (hosted in the Championship Village), Wood was put in his place by some big hitters on a daily basis. Dean Wright streaked 41 yards past with a 371 yard beast on Friday morning.
Back on the course Mizuno’s other players Magnus A Carlsson (-5) and two time winner Luke Donald (-2) also showed form heading into the business end of the season.
