Polished Wood Wins 2nd European Tour Title

Woody comes scorching from 5 back with flawless last round 67

Mizuno’s Chris Wood was near perfect with a last round 67 to claim his second European Tour title with a two shot triumph at the Lyoness Open Powered by Greenfinity at Diamond Country Club.

After slipping back in round 3, Woody started five shots off the pace, but showed no nerves in quickly overhauling the field.  Driving the ball beautifully with his JPX850, Woody kept his control in the weeks most testing conditions.  A brilliant pitch on the par 5 16th ensured a birdie on the way home to seal the win.

The win confirms that Chris Wood is firmly back on course to fulfill his amateur potential after debilitating run of injuries.  After leading the BMW Championship, he finished in 4th spot and showed well again at the Irish Open.  Commentators and golfing experts had predicted the run in form would culminate in an Austrian win and Woody did not disappoint.

“Woody has the game to compete in all the Majors,” Alex Thorne, Head of Tour Operations.

“We’ve always been confident of Chris Wood making his way back to the winners circle – we couldn’t be happier to see him put those injuries behind him.  To finish 2014 with a broken wrist and be back contending so quickly is amazing.”

“If he can stay injury free, Woody has the game to compete in all the Majors.  He’s a long, straight driver, a great long iron player and as the 16th showed – creative around the greens.  Once he breaks into the top 50, we’ll really see the best of him.”  Alex Thorne, Head of European Tour Operations, Mizuno.

Chris Wood played JPX850 driver, fairway woods, MP-4 irons (with MP-64 4 iron) and MP-T5 wedges.

Meanwhile on the LET Access Tour, Mizuno players claimed 1st and 2nd spots at Open Generali de Strasbourg. Finland’s Oona Vartiainen (JPX850 driver / 3wood/ 5wood, MP-54 irons, MP-T5 wedges) shot a closing 66, 6 under par, to win by two shots from Lucie Andre of France (JPX850 woods and JPX850 Forged irons).
