Chris Wood Back From Injury With New Mizuno Deal

‘Woody’ adds new JPX850 driver to MP-4 irons and MP-T5 wedges

Chris Wood made his much awaited return to the European Tour at the Africa Open after recovering from a wrist injury.

Wood’s return coincides with an extended Mizuno deal which will see him playing the JPX850 driver in addition to his irons.   Mizuno and Wood had been working on the JPX850 driver prior to the his tennis induced injury.

Mizuno and Wood believe that he is ready for an assault on the game’s elite tournaments.  Alex Thorne, Tour Operations Manager, “Woody is an incredible ball striker – working with him on the driver has highlighted that.  He’s averaging 111mph club-head speed and 168mph ball speed – which for a player with his control is very impressive.  He lead the driving stats a few seasons ago and he’s very close to that level again now.

“We’ve fixed Woody’s weights into the toe and middle 2 channels, which gives him some protection against hitting left.  Depending on the course, we can still move the middle weight forwards and knock around another 300rpm off the spin rate.”

With the irons, we’re sticking with the MP-4s which are ideal for a stronger ball striker who needs to control trajectory.”
